What sets Work In Progress apart from temporary agencies?

We provide personalized services based upon the participant’s needs, wants, and abilities. We know the difficulties of adjusting to work, managing health and wellness. We enlist support services from care providers. We strive to match our work candidates with employment opportunities of their choice where they can be successful. Work In Progress work candidates have job coaching support for the duration of time needed or requested by the participant or employer. Employment support services are not time limited.

What will I need to register with Work In Progress as a client / participant?

Talk to your clinician about wanting to go to work . Ask your clinician to make a referral to Work In Progress. It is that simple. Once a referral is received, we will reach out to you to begin services rapidly.

Can I get hired if I have had a problem with the law?

At Work In Progress we get to know the people we are serving. We ask the hard questions and evaluate your ability to be a good fit for an employment opportunity that will work with you and your history.

Can I go to school?

We are excited that you want to continue to build your experience and options. We know people and can refer you to programs to advance your training.

Are there any work from home jobs?

There are work from home customer service representative jobs for individuals with computer skills and the necessary technological equipment.

Do you charge participants for services?

There is no charge to program participants or to the employer.

How do you receive services from Work In Progress?

What kind of services do you offer?

Specialized employment preparation. Providing what you need to be able to go to work. Resume creation, interview preparation, individualized job search, skill building training, job training, assistance in evaluating work environments for accommodations, advocacy for accommodations from employer, and follow along supports to encourage maintaining employment.

What kinds of jobs do you have?

We look for jobs you want. Jobs you are qualified to work. There are no limits to what we can find, if it is a good fit for you. We have helped people work in everything from non – skilled positions to certification and degree requiring careers. Full time and part time employment.

How soon can I go to work?

Your Employment Specialist will start looking for openings as soon as the first appointment with us. How quickly you will find employment depends on your situation and ability to overcome any limitations.

Will I lose my benefits when I go to work?

We will assist you in getting benefit counseling information and help you understand it. You need to have accurate information to make your choices about how much to work that will secure your health insurance and benefit check.

Do you provide transportation to work?

We teach participants to look for employment where you can be independent. We look at public transportation services and private for hire transportation services. Being able to get to a job is essential. You must be able to get to an employment site or to the locations that are serviced by public transportation.

Do you drug screen? Can I get a job if I can’t pass a drug screen?

At Work In Progress we get to know the people we are serving. We ask for your honesty in reporting your ability to be a good fit for an employment opportunity that screens for drug use. We will work with you and your ability to make good choices. Stopping drug use will open employment opportunities to you. Until you can refrain from drug use and pass a drug screen we will guide you in searching for employers that will not have a conflict with a positive drug screen.

Utilize our staff for screening potential employees.  Let our Employment Specialist train with your new employee and we can provide continued training and job coaching support. There are no fees to employer or employee. We save you money on advertising and recruiting new employees.

What will I need to register with Work In Progress as an employer?

A simple phone call to our office (803-758-0066) and a list of your hiring needs. Tell us what type of skill set you are searching for in a potential employee, and we will perform the screening and search for the perfect employee.

How are accidents and worker's compensation claims handled?

The right training and follow-along services creates a trained employee aware of and knowledgeable of safety and risk management. This employee and their Employment specialist can help you reduce risk. Work In Progress can help your staff become more aware of ergonomic work methods, saving your company time and money. The hiring company hires participants directly. All hiring and employment  policies and procedures apply the same as with any other employee.

What happens if I am not satisfied with the work candidate that is referred to me?

If an employer is not satisfied with the work candidate's performance, let the Employment Specialist know. The Employment Specialist can step in and provide training and behavioral intervention to teach, coach, and create the employee you need at your company.

Over 30 years there are so many employers who have hired and  trusted Work In Progress and program participants.  To name a few:  Walmart, Aramark, Sodexho, Riverbanks Zoo, SC State Museum, SC State Employees, Office of Mental Health, CVS, Walgreens, Nephron, Home Depot, Lowes, Kroger, City of Columbia, Cola Fireflies, and so many more.
